Storyteller Quest 6

Knowledge

POV - Point of view.

Second Person POV - The reader is the protagonist. “You” is used to describe the protagonist. The events are happening to the reader, who is the narrator.

In example:

The PE teacher barked at you while your hands slid down the rope, eyes clenched, praying you wouldn’t crash onto the hardwood floor.

Third Person POV - The protagonist and the narrator are different people. The narrator is recalling the events of a story that happen to someone else.

In example:

The PE teacher barked at Matt while his hands slid down the rope. With eyes clenched Matt prayed he wouldn’t crash onto the hardwood floor.

Inspiration

Can you think of a time you were so stressed out that the air felt electric? Or a time where your guts were in knots? Now imagine your enemy shows up. What happens? What is their purpose there? How will you overcome them/ it?

Challenge

Part 1. Write the first interaction between your protagonist and antagonist from the previous quest in second person point of view.

Part 2. Write an interaction between the protagonist and a foil character in the third person point of view.

Send me a message if you’d like some feedback. Also, let me know what you’ve been reading!

Encouragement

Second and third person stories are great ways to separate yourself from stories that have personal inspiration. You can even write stories in the first person and change them to the second or third person after your first draft is complete.

It’s tempting to want to write in your favorite way to read books. For now, I encourage you to write however you want, though you should know that many first time writers have an easier time writing in first person. Today is just a drill.

Wait! You are reading books, aren’t you?!
