The Matron and The Man
A matron from Capital Kingdom
Sent a letter to tiny No-where
Seeking a person to love
In need of medical care
For I have been a nurse all my life
And to go on I need someone to fix
My late patient was stuck in a bottle
But now he has sunk with the ship
And two patients before him
—For there’ve been twenty-three
When I met her had such halitosis
Was easily healed from the bark of a tree
For I’ve healed all of my patients
And am looking for someone quite broke
Someone to love, to fix, and to shove
To heal with my masterstroke
Eight trips to the post later
Wouldn’t you know it
There arrived an egg-shaped letter
From: Man with a foul habit
Dear matron from Capital Kingdom
Please take me under your wing
For I have what you seek
And with me I will bring—
Tap, Tap
Above the letter, to the matron’s surprise
Waddled a grinning, stooped man
He held his hat to his chest in a bent bow
And smirked at his well-laid plan
When she squealed with delight
He knew then he wouldn’t love her
For she had the shriek of a cat. Still, he stayed
For at least she wasn't his mother
